SAN ANTONIO - A former San Antonio police officer who was acquitted in the 2023 shooting death of Melissa Perez has joined the Kendall County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office announced that Deputy E. Alejandro and Deputy C. Alderete are its newest members.
“We know they will bring dedication, professionalism, and a strong commitment to our community,” the sheriff's office said in its announcement on Facebook.
Eleazar Alejandro was one of three former San Antonio police officers charged following the June 2023 death of Perez, a mother of four who authorities said was experiencing a mental health crisis when she was shot and killed inside her apartment.
Alejandro and Alfredo Flores faced murder charges, while Nathaniel Villalobos was charged with aggravated assault. A jury found all three former officers not guilty on all charges in November 2025.

Following their acquittal, the three spoke exclusively with News 4 San Antonio and maintained that they followed SAPD training and policy during the encounter.
“Policy was followed that night,” Alejandro said at the time. “It's clear cut. It's very black and white. Policy was 100% followed that night.”

The former officers also criticized how SAPD leadership handled the investigation and their arrests. Alejandro said after the trial that he had no interest in returning to the San Antonio Police Department.
