At-home therapist accused of sexually assaulting autistic girl for 8 years, report says
SAN ANTONIO - An at-home occupational therapist is facing sexual assault charges after authorities said he sexually abused a 12-year-old girl with autism during therapy sessions.
Lewis Trudell Barber, 56, was arrested following an investigation by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said Barber, who worked for Aveanna Healthcare, had been the girl’s therapist since she was 4 years old.
According to an arrest report, the girl’s mother took her to a pediatric clinic on Sept. 20 after she complained of vaginal itching. During the visit, the child broke down in tears and told her doctor that Barber had been touching her inappropriately over and under her clothes during home sessions.
The child told investigators she repeatedly asked Barber to stop and said "no," but felt scared to speak up sooner. She reported that the abuse occurred at both her family's home and her aunt's house.
