SAN ANTONIO - A utility worker made a grim discovery Wednesday morning when he found a body hidden in tall grass in a rural area of Bexar County, launching an investigation into how the person died.
Deputies were called to a grassy area along East Loop 1604 South near Stuart Road after a utility worker found the body while working in the area.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said the male's remains were located in dense grass that stands more than six feet tall, making them difficult to spot.
"If you're not standing right on top of where a body could be, it's quite possible that you wouldn't see it, even though it's just a few feet away," Salazar said.
Investigators said the body could have been left at the location, but they are exploring all possibilities and have not determined how the person died.
Officials said the remains are in an advanced stage of decomposition, and it is possible the person died of natural causes. However, Sheriff Salazar said they are examining the case from every angle before reaching any conclusions.
Authorities also confirmed they recently received information from the U.S. Border Patrol about a report of a body being dumped in the general vicinity. Investigators are working to determine whether that report is connected to the remains discovered Wednesday.
