Suspect allegedly steals ATM containing $10,000 and safe with $8,000 in major heist

SAN ANTONIO — A man is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from an ATM and a safe in a series of burglaries.

According to arrest affidavits, Brion Lorence Alezand Shields is charged with theft of an ATM valued at less than $300,000 and burglary of a building.

Investigators allege Shields served as the driver during a Sept. 6, 2025, burglary at Ruiz Market on South Loop 1604 East.

Deputies responded to a commercial burglary alarm and found the front door and burglar bars damaged. Investigators said suspects stole an ATM containing approximately $10,000 and a safe containing an estimated $8,000.

The affidavits say surveillance video showed three suspects arriving in a black Dodge Durango. Two suspects entered the business while the driver remained with the vehicle before helping load the stolen ATM and safe

Deputies later identified the Dodge Durango and executed search warrants at the vehicle and motel rooms at the El Tejas Motel.

During the search, investigators recovered items they believe were used in the burglary, including a yellow dolly, gloves, a skull face mask, a red shirt, and a cordless grinder. Authorities also seized cellphones.

According to the affidavits, cellphone data, surveillance video, and evidence recovered during the search warrants led investigators to identify Shields as the driver during the Ruiz Market burglary..
