SAN ANTONIO - We finally hit 100 degrees for the first time this year, and we're now under a Heat Advisory until tonight.
And as temperatures go up, experts say you may want to do the same with your thermostat.
It is definitely hot out there. We are already in the 80s this morning, and temperatures will continue climbing through the day.
The dangerous heat isn't going anywhere. The Heat Advisory remains in effect through tonight for the second day in a row, and the hot pattern is expected to continue across South Texas through the end of the week.
That also means many of us could see a spike in our electric bills. During the summer, depending on the size of your home and where you keep your thermostat, monthly cooling costs can range from $220 to $280, with even higher bills possible for larger homes.
Experts say that for every degree you raise your thermostat, you can save about that same percentage on your energy bill. For example, if you normally keep your home at 75 degrees and raise it to 78 degrees while you're away during the day, you could save about 3% on your cooling costs.
If you need a place to cool off, there are more than 80 cooling centers across San Antonio with varying hours of operation.

- North Side: Encino Branch Library on Evans Road
- East Side: District 2 Senior Center on W.W. White Road
- South Side: Ramirez Community Center on Gillette Boulevard
- West Side: Alicia Treviño Lopez Senior Center on Culebra Road
