Driver rescued after vehicle swept into floodwaters in Medina County

MEDINA COUNTY, Texas - A driver was safely rescued Tuesday morning after his vehicle became stranded in floodwaters in Medina County following heavy overnight rain.

The rescue happened along Farm-to-Market 4516 near Quihi, west of Hondo, where emergency crews responded after the driver accidentally drove into a flooded low-water crossing before sunrise.

A ladder truck and several emergency responders were called to the scene. Authorities said the man was given a life jacket, and crews were able to safely bring him to shore. An ambulance was on standby, but officials said the rescue ended without serious injuries.

The area was one of the hardest hit by overnight storms, with some locations receiving up to 10 inches of rain. Floodwaters quickly covered roads and low-water crossings, making travel dangerous in the dark.

Officials are reminding drivers to never attempt to cross flooded roads, especially before daylight when standing water can be difficult to see. The National Weather Service continues to warn that additional heavy rain could cause more flash flooding across South Central Texas.
