Belgium defeats USMNT 4-1 at Seattle Stadium, advances to World Cup quarterfinals



 Belgium is headed to the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals after defeating The U.S. Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT) 4-1 Monday night at Seattle Stadium.

The Red Devils eliminated the United States in front of a sold-out crowd, ending the Americans' tournament run while extending Belgium's own unbeaten march through the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Belgium will face Spain in the quarterfinals after Spain defeated Portugal 1-0 earlier on Monday.

The Red Devils reached the Round of 16 after winning Group G. Belgium opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Egypt before playing Iran to a scoreless draw. The Belgians then closed group play with a 4-1 victory over New Zealand to secure first place in the group before defeating Senegal 3-2 in Seattle's first knockout-round match.

Team USA entered Monday after finishing second in Group D. The Americans defeated Paraguay and Australia before falling to Turkey in their final group-stage match. They advanced to the Round of 16 with a 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Supporters from both countries packed Seattle Stadium after spending the afternoon at fan marches, watch parties, and celebrations throughout downtown Seattle. The international atmosphere capped the city's final match as a host of the FIFA World Cup.

Monday marked Seattle's sixth and final match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the city hosted four group-stage contests and two Round of 16 matches.

The tournament drew hundreds of thousands of visitors while setting records for transit ridership, fan festival attendance, and business activity around the stadium district.
