'It will be fantastic!': Trump announces midterm convention for Republicans in Dallas

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said Republicans will hold the party's first national convention ahead of the midterm elections, an unprecedented gathering intended to energize supporters before races that will determine control of Congress.

The president shared the news on Truth Social, adding that the convention will take place September 9 and September 10 in Dallas. He said the event will focus on rallying Republican voters ahead of the November midterm elections

"For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION. It will be in Dallas, Texas -- One of my favorite places in the World. It will be fantastic!" Trump wrote.
"It has never been done before, and will be a truly Historic Event. We are going to celebrate the GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK, and the incredible successes of the American People who transformed our Country through the America First Agenda -- NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME, NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY, STRONGER BORDERS, SAFEST EVER COMMUNITIES, LOWER COSTS AND REAL AFFORDABILITY, MORE JOBS, AMERICAN ENERGY DOMINANCE, AND SO MUCH MORE!" he added.

Although both major parties traditionally hold blockbuster conventions during presidential campaigns, Trump has long floated the idea of a similar gathering this year to focus voters' attention on a sprawling collection of House and Senate races.

The announcement comes as both Republicans and Democrats ramp up organizing efforts ahead of the election, with control of the House and Senate expected to be fiercely contested.

If Democrats regain control of either chamber, they will be empowered to block Trump’s agenda and launch investigations into his administration for the final two years of his term.

Trump has made campaigning for Republican candidates a central focus of his political activity, frequently holding rallies and fundraising events in battleground states as the midterm campaign intensifies.
